I have been using a Le Creuset Doufeu (round and oval) for many years and cannot imagine a finer utensil for slow cooking stews. The doufeu maintains liquid and cleans up in a breeze. It's quite heavy and while that may be a negative for some it uses it's mass to retain the heat and cook on a lower than usual flame.
